' MEETING OF ASSOCIATION ' The monthly meeting of the Dunedin ! Returned Soldiers' Association was held i last night, the president (Mr A. Thomas) 1 occuping the chair. There were also present:—Messrs W. F. Forrester. J. S. i Skinner, C, L. Calvert. G. H. Ferens, • ! 11. L. Paterson. J. M. White, P. S. Ani -derson. A. B. Natusch, N. Wilson, and <**Q. L. Ferens (secretary). [ The president extended a welcome to , Mr G. H. Ferens, who had been absent ' for some considerable time owing to ill- ! ness. 1 MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN. The president reported that the present figures in the membership campaign were ■ as follows: —Dunedin, 2109; Christchurch. i 2060. Fourteen nominations for membership . were granted, and two transfers inwards and one outwards were approved. One J application for honorary membership was ' also granted. ! It was reported that two members — Messrs A. J. Doyle and W. H. Wilson—had died since the last meeting, and those present stood in silence for a moment as a mark of respect. | COMMITTEE REPORTS. , Moving the adoption of the Golf Committee's report, Mr Paterson stated that ' J lie entries for the Labour Day golf tournament were over 43. Other entries were 1 coming in from the country and every- : liiinsr was going very well.—The report i was adopted. l Mr Forrester moved the adoption of the i Unemployment Committee's report, which stated that 86 applications for assistance ! had been dealt with. —The report was ap- ; proved. GENERAL. It was decided to instruct the secretary to visit the Hospital regularly, if pressure of ordinary business made it impossible different arrangements were to be made to allow him the required time, i It was resolved to send a letter of ap- > preciation to Matron Macmillan, who was " retiring from the staff of the Montecillo ' Home after 18 years' valuable and con- " rcientious service. I The secretary stated that he had ati tended the annual meeting of the Port i Chalmers branch of the association when f it had been stated that, by its own efforts, , the branch had last year raised the outl standing sum of £386. —It was decided to ' send a letter of congratulation to the ' branch on its creditable performance, i Mr Calvert stated that since the last meeting the Burnt-out Veterans Bill had . been passed, which was a milestone in the , history of the association. The association had never been backward in criticising the Government when they disagreed 1 with its actions, and now that they had 3 got what they wanted he considered a ?. letter of appreciation should be forwarded through the New Zealand Returned j. Soldiers' Association. —It was decided to , carry out the suggestion and also to write I a letter of appreciation to Mr J. A.
