TAPANUI

Angling The Tapanui Anglers' Club held its first competition on the Rankleburn stretch of the Pomahaka River on Saturday for the President's Cup. Although the weather was rather cold and wintry, the conditions, were good for fishing and good snort was obtained by those who took the bank. Of those who weighed in, two obtained limit bags. The following are the details:—

Presentation To mark his retirement from active football, Mr C. Murray was entertained on Saturday evening by members of the Tapanui Football Club. In the unavoidable absence of the club's president (Mr J. D. Edgar), Mr O. L. Munyard acted as chairman, and during the evening presented Mr Murray with a gold-mounted fountain pen. In doing so he said it gave him great pleasure to honour Mr Murray, who had been an active footballer for 25 years and for 23 years as a senior player, which he thought was a wonderful record. Several other members spoke in eulogistic terms of the play and sportsmanship of Mr Murray. Mr Murray suitably replied.
