VINCENT HOSPITAL BOARD

The meeting of the Vincent Hospital Board was held at Clyde, on Wednesday, there being present Messrs J. Ritchie (chairman), D. S. Middleton, W. Jelley, S. A. Stevens, C. Weaver, W. Bringans, and G. T. Alexander. The Director-general of Health advised that the Minister had approved of the board making the following grants to medical associations during the current financial year:—Lauder Combined Medical Club, £205; Wanaka District Doctor'sFund, £9o—Received. The Hospital Boards' Association forwarded several letters regarding the liability of hospital boards for the negligence of nurses and asked if the board was desirous, in conjunction wijh other boards, to contribute towards the costs incurred by the Waitaki Hospital Board in the recent case, Logau versus Waitaki Hospital Board. —The letters were received and the board decided to assist the Waitaki Board in the payment of expenses incurred in contesting the case. The Otago Hospital Board forwarded accounts totalling £64 12s due for the treatment of Vincent district patients in the Dunedin Hospital.—Received. The Southland Hospital Board advised that three Vincent patients had been treated in Southland institutions and forwarded accounts totalling £3O due for their maintenance. —Received. The Waipiata Sanatorium Committee notified that two Vincent patients had been discharged in August from the sanatorium. —Received. The treasurer's statement of actual ro : ceipts and payments for the half-year ended 30/9/35 as compared with the estimates showed the actual receipts to be £Bl 4s Id more than the estimate and the. actual payments 3s lOd more than the estimate. The board's credit balance on 30/9/35 beinu £272 7e 9d.— Received. The matron, Cromwell Hospital, reported that during September 28 patients were admitted, 20 were discharged, one had died, and 23 remained on September 30. —Received. The matron, Dunstan Hospital, reported that during September 22 patients were admitted, 17 were discharged, one had died, and 22 were in hospital on September 30. —Received. Miss Pullar, matron of Cromwell Hospital, applied for four months' leave of absence to take a course of Plunket nursing.—The request was granted by the board. Accounts amounting to £1347 13s 7d were passed for payment. The secretary was instructed to write to the Minister of Justice with a request that the reopening of the Clyde Magistrate's Court, which was closed some three years ago for economy reasons, be favourably considered.
