A DANGEROUS MAN

Described by the magistrate as "a dangerous member of society,” Edgar Ward, who gave his name as Paul Lukas, aud his address as Tonyrefail, Glamorgan, was sentenced at West London Police Court recently to four months’ hard labour. He had pleaded guilty to obtaining credit for £t> by fraud from Florence Williams, Victoria Mansions, Ladbroke Grove, W. Detective Sergeant Perry said that Ward, who gave his name as Paul, secured credit by representing that he had £4OO invested in a firm of variety agents. He had been engaged in running dance bands. There was a considerable amount of sharp practice in running these bands. On one occasion Ward was supposed to be coming from America with a dance band and arranged for photographers to meet him at Paddington. He changed over from a third to a first-class carriage to bo photographed.
