Mr and Mrs W. M'Kenzie left Waitahuna on Thursday for a visit to their sou and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs Murray M'Kenzie, of Onehunga. They expect to be absent at least two months.
The Ex-Girls’ High School Club met in the Vedic last evening, with Miss Allan presiding. There was a large attendance of members. Mrs Peter Milne gave a talk on “ Kenya,” dealing in the course of her remarks with the life of the natives, the animals and so on, and Dr Sinclair read several remits to be discussed at the forthcoming meeting of the National Council of Women. The evening closed with a vote of thanks (proposed by Miss Morton) to Mrs Milne for her delightful and interesting address.
The annual dance of Columba Girls College took place on Friday evening. Constance : Hall was quaintly decorated in Eastern fashion with hanging lanterns in blue and yellow, the school colours. This was also the theme of the supper room decorations. Mias Ashworth and Miss Miller received the guests, among whom were:—Miss Ross, Lady Sidey, Mesdames Ewing. Templeton and J. Malcolm, Misses Betty Nossiter, Miss Jean Cairney, Lorna M'Rjfe and Ida White, Mr and Mrs M‘Nab, Mr and Mrs Kidson, Mr and Mrs T. Holme. Dr and Mrs Bortie. Mr and Mrs J. Hogg, Mr and Mrs S. P. Cameron. Mr and Mrs J. M. Fraser, Mr and Mrs W. E. Earnshaw, and Mr ■and Mrs H. C. Campbell. Several oldtime dances were included in the programme, the lucky spot waltz being won by Miss Edna Philip and her partner. A pleasant evening came to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne ” and the National Anthem.
Last evening, in the Somerset Lounge, the St. Hilda’s Old Girls’ Association held its annual meeting, preceded by a dinner party, over which Airs A. A. I airbairn (president of the association) and Miss Blackmorc (principal of the school) presided. There were present at the dinner; —Mesdames J. S. Sinclair, R. W. S. Betting, F. L. Buttle, Cookson, Duthie, A. Gray, Innes Walker, James, Leech, K. Macmillan, J. Neill, Smeaton, Thompson and Wheeler, and Misses M. Allan, E. Blyth, M. Brown, L. Barton, C. Conn, M. Cotton, B. Dawson, C. and K. Falconer, S. Fitchett. M. Fairbairn. M. Holloway, J. Jones, E. Johnson, B. Mitcheii, J. Priest, J. Ritchie. P. Stephens, M. Thompson and B. Whitelaw. The toasts were:—“The King” (Mrs Fairbairn), “The School” (Miss Blyth and Miff Blackmore), “The Sisters” (Mrs Botting), and “Absent Friends (Patsy Stephens). In the election of olhcebearera later on the following .were chosen:—President, Mrs Fairbairn; vicepresidents, Mesdames Botting and Sinclair; secretary, Miss K. I alconcr; treasurer, Miss Blyth; committee. Mrs Buttle and Misses B. Mitchell, M. Cotton, L. Dawson. M. Featherston. S. Fitchett and J. North.
