Despite delay in threading through Portsmouth’s packed street market before breakfast, and a minor fall and one wrong turn, “ Hefty ” Stuart broke the London-Portsmouth-London record of 137 miles in 6hr 34min 7eec, which is 15mm lOsec better than Southall’s 1934 record.
