(Received July 22, at 10 p.m.) : ‘ Reports that an aeroplane is in readiness to take: ex-King George to Athens at a moment’s notice have been denied by the Mayor of Athens, who arrived in London to consult with exKing George regarding the plebiscite.
The Daily Herald says the Mayor spent the day closeted with the ex-King at his hotel. The Mayor told the Herald that rumours of a coup d’etat were absurd, and ex-King George would wait until the people asked him to return. The Daily, Herald’s Athens correspondent says the general opinion in Greece is that the Mayor told ex-King George that his chances in the plebiscite were poor, and should therefore ask the Government to postpone or abandon the poll. • v ■ v :; -. -■■ ,v’.MEETINGS IN GREECE BANNED ■y - ; v.
