UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF
CITY LOAN WORKS STANDARD RATES FOR 300 MEN. (Peb United Press Association) . WELLINGTON, July 22. Following, a conference with the Minister of Employment, Mr S. G. Smith, recently the, City Council to-day received a letter from the Unemployment Board offering in respect to certain loan works a subsidy of 12 per centum on the capital cost, or alternatively 35s per man weekly in respect to each married man taken from the unemployment register. The council expressed gratification at the board’s offer, which was accepted, and it was decided that approximately 300 of the most efficient workers be employed for the remainder of the financial year at full standard rates.
