Tasmania's 14 years' light for an amendment of the Australian Navigation Act to enable British liners to carry passengers between Australian ports and Tasmania has succeeded at last, subject to the amending Bill receiving the King's assent. The amendment does' not give vessels the right to carry passengers between Australian capitals, but It confers the right to carry such passengers "from a port in Australia to another port In Australia, with which the first port of embarkation is not connected by rail." Vessels must not be oj less than 10.000 tons gross and have a speed of 14 knots. The Tasmanlan people are highly elated at their signal victory. It removes the feeling of isolation, which has had a very depressing effect on Tasmanlan trade.
