SUNDAY FARES

TO THE EDITOR Sir, —You say to-day: "No other public utility readily suggests itself in the case of which the charge for a Sunday Bervice is differentiated from the charge on other days, of the week." What about the New Zealand Railways, They do not increase < the fares on Sundays. On the contrary," in some cases they lower them very considerably for passengers on Sundays—to a rate that is ou£ of all proportion to other day charges. I am not arguing that the Dunedin City Council should do this, because I do not understand why the railways do it. I would like to have the knowledge of the future that the manager of the Tramways Department has when he is able to estimate the loss so precisely as £1496 per annum. — I am, etc., M. July 20.
