BALCLUTHA Gun Club Matches The South Otago Gun Club held a series of shooting matches at North Balclutha on Saturday in fine weather. The Skeet (14 birds)-was won by Wilson Elliott, with a score of 13. J., Stiven and Adam Campbell divided second prize with 12 birds each. Also competed. Arbuthnott (8), W. Dippie '(9)V-D. Campbell (8), C. Falconer (10), O, Thomson (8), W. Mason (11). R. D. Willocks (6), G. Sinclair (9), Dr Radcliffe (8), K. Johnston (4). In the nine-bird match .J. Stiven (handicap 20 yards) and R. Arbuthnott (17) tied with a score of nine birds each, and in the shoot-off Stiven won. Dr Radcliffe was third with a score of eight. ■- Also competed:. W. Elliott (8). C. Sinclair (5), R. D. Willocks (6), A. Campbell (8), C. Thomson (8), K. Johnston (4), W. Mason (8), D Campbell (,8), W. Dippie (6),,J. falconer (retired). The concluding event was a six-bird double rise match,-without prize money. This resulted as follows: —C. Thompson 6 points, C. Falconer 3. R. D. .Willocks 4, D. Campbell 3, W. Dippie 5. The representative Rugby match between the South Otago and Western Dis-. tricts 'Sub-unions was played at Tapanui on Saturday. The teams .were:— _ South Otago.r-J. Roy, Gold, Elliott, Townley, G. ' Within, two'minutes of. the .start good work by the South Otago forwards enabled Orr to. score a good try, which Roy failed tb convert. Soon* afterwards the South Otago forwards combined in another • rush/ and .scored. The. kick at: ffoai: failed. Some up-and-down play followed until Western broke away and scored, but the kick at goal failed. The game was being played at a tast pace, with South Otago haying the bettei of it. Fromia scrum about halfway the ball travelled-.along the. back to Gold, who raced through to score, and Elliott 1 converted. Half time came without further score. South Otago 11, Western 3. In the second spell there was no further score, the play being mainly confined to the forwards, both packs putting, plenty of dash into their play. The visitors were entertained after the,, match by tbe Western .Districts Subunion. , There were no senior fixtures on account of the* representative game at-Tapa-nui. In the Junior Grade, playing on the Balcluth.a ground, Crescent defeated High School unexpectedly by. 9 points' to 3 points. At Owaka Clutha 111 was defeated by Owaka 111 by the narrow margin of 6 points to 5 points.- ) *;-,■.: Basketball "...','. On the local High School courts the Eastern Districts (Gore) representative team, defeated South Otago by 14 goals to II goals.- ' , . . , 'Owaka Court' ." r ". ' /"!:./'" •. At the Owaka Police Court on Thursday Mr T. Barr, J.P.. and Mr A. Paterson, J.P., John Forbes., charged with shooting grey duck, on- May 26 without a license, was fined £5, with £1 lis costs. George Hutton, charged with selling milk other than from "a registered dairy, was convicted and fined! £l, with costs 10s.
