ROYAL MALE CHOIR

To cater in male voice singing for hundreds of patrons in their entertainment year in and year out for 50 years and to retain their support and goodwill throughout is a worthy achievement. The Royal Dunedin Male Choir has never relied upon its past only, but, always keeping in touch with the world fields of music and gleaning from them their best, has brought many fine pieces to its patrons.- When to this is added adequate preparation by conductor and singers of the programme selected the success of a concert is achieved. On Monday evening at the Town Hall the lS9th concert will be given, and this should prove a successful concert. Part songs with incidental solos for Messrs John Kennedy, Edward Benton and G. Stuart Thomson respectively should be popular items. The choir soloists will be Messrs R. A. Mitchell (tenor) and J. D. M'Kechnie (bass), and there will be a duet by Messrs .7. Kennedy and Cecil S. Hawes. Apart from the other six choir contributions there should be a feast of male voice singing. The lady soloist of the evening will be the gifted soprano, Miss Bet’ty Pocock, whose first contribution will be a bracket, “To Music ” and “ The Wind in the Chimney ” (Sanderson). In the second part of the programme she will sing “ Rose Softly Blooming” (Spohr). The items of the cellist of the evening. Mr Victor A. Le Petit, will bo “Allegro Appassionato ” (Saint-Saens) and “ Gavotte ” (Popper). Amongst the choir items will be a scene from “ The Miracle ” (Humperdinck) which Mr W. R. Sinclair will conduct.
