STREET ACCIDENTS

OBLIGATION ON PEDESTRIANS COMMENT BY CORONER. (PEK UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION) PALMERSTON X., July 10. The necessity for pedestrians observing extreme tare in crossing streets was emphasised by Mr A. J. Graham, coroner, at the inquest to-day on William Edward Turner, aged 67, who died as the result of injuries received in a collision with a motor truck driven by Claude Dustin, of Waitotara, on July 6. On returning a verdict of accidental death, the coroner said that no blame was attachable to the driver. “ This emphasises the need for pedestrians to exercise extreme precautions. All accidents are not the fault of car drivers. In this case the deceased apparently failed to look both ways before crossing the road.” The evidence showed that the deceased suddenly emerged from behind another vehicle on to the track of the oncoming truck.
