BRITISH BUDGET
THE CHIEF CONCESSION RESTORATION OF CUTS (British Official Wireless.) (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) RUGBY, June 29. Two concessions made in this year’s Budget will come into effect on Monday, July 1, and will benefit by salary restoration and wages increases more than 3,000,000 people. The chief of these concessions restores the economy cuts made at the time of the 1931 financial crisis in the pay of civil servants, members of the defence forces, teachers, police, insurance, doctors, chemists, judges, members of Parliament, and Cabinet Ministers. The cost to the Exchequer will be £4,000,000 in the present financial year. This payment marks the recognition of the end of the depression period. The second Budget concession abolishes the entertainment duty oh all admission payments under fid, while the duty on such payments over fid will be reduced in theatres, music halls and other places where there are living performers. This will cost the State about £2,250,000 during the current year. In a full year all these concessions will be equivalent to £8,500,000.
During July at least 1,500,000 workers in the great industries will also receive wages increases. It is, in fact, estimated that July will be the best month for wage advances, both in the number benefiting and the amount involved, for a decade.
