METEOROLOGY
OVERSEAS CONFERENCE DR KIDSON'S MISSION (Peb United Pbess Association) WELLINGTON, June 27. Leaving Wellington to-day for Auckland, en route to England, Dr Kidson, Director of Meteorological Services, will attend two very important meteorological conferences. Oi»e of these, the Empire Meteorological Conference, is to be held in London, and will be attended by meteorologists from all parts of the Empire. One of the main subjects for consideration is that of Imperial aviation, in the successful conduct of which meteorology plays such an important part. Agricultural and seasonal forecasting will also come under consideration.
Another important section of the conference will be devoted to marine meteorology. Of even more importance is the International Conference of Meteorological Directors, which is scheduled to take place at Warsaw. Dr Kidson waa elected to the Permanent Committee of this conference in 1931. The problems to be discussed at this conference cover a very wide range, amongst them being that of formulating an international code for weather messages. International cooperation in the interchange of meteorological messages is very difficult, as the requirements of the various countries are eo very different.
