NOTES FROM RICCARTON
(Special to Daily Times) CIIRISTCHURCH, June 27
Riptide, who won his race in good style at Ashburton, is to have a new trainer, having joined Gold Cross under the care of D. Cotton. The change was made at the instigation of Riptide's former trainer, J. S. Shaw. He has had Cotton with him for some time as head man and was anxious to help his assistant to get a start as a trainer. Cotton will remain in his present quarters with Shaw until after the Wellington meeting next month, after which he will set up in hie own stables. First View, who has been in S. Barr's team for about a year, has been shifted to J. S. Shaw's stable. He won the maiden event at the Waimate Hunt meeting last July in his first start after he came to Riccarton, but his form has never been more than moderate. It is probable he will again be given a race at Waimate next month. High Speed has resumed light work after having an easy time for nearly a
week. He bruised some of the muscles in the near hind leg, preventing the lymphatic gland from iunctioning. The lee swelled down to the hock, but under treatment all evidence of the trouble has almost disappeared. He moved freely on the sand this morning, and H. Turner hopes to have him ready for his engagements in the hack steeplechases at Trentham.
