MAINTENANCE ORDER
ARREARS OF £9OO REMITTED (Pek United Press association) CHRISTCHURCH. June 27. Arrears of maintenance totalling £OOO, owing by Frederick Williams, who recently appeared in vaudeville turns here as Fred Argyle, were wiped off by the magistrate, Mr E. C. Levvey, this morning, after considering an application by Williams for variation of a maintenance order n.ade against him in 1922 in respect of his wife and child. The magistrate said the order for 30s weekly for the support of the wife would remain, together with £4O arrears. Williams said he was separated from his wife in 1922. He received no demand for money until 1934, when he got a letter stating that he owed £9OO. On returning t'j Sydney, he arranged with the welfare officer to pay £1 a week. His gross earnings in the 12 years had been £l4O a year. He had never been before any court for disobedience of the order.
