KIDNAPPING IN CUBA NUMEROUS ARRESTS MADE (United Press Association.) ißy Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) HAVANA, April 10. (Received April 11, at 9.30 p.m.) The American technique of the “ snatch racket ” was apparently successfully applied here when kidnappers, after seizing Falla Gutierrez, the fabulously wealthy scion of a prominent sugar family, from his automobile in a Havana suburb, obtained 300,000 dollars in United States currency for his release.
Gutierrez immediately fled to the United States, and the police threw cordons of guards round the homes of other members of his family in order to protect them against threats of violence from the kidnappers for having revealed the facts. The ransom money was marked, and already 20 persons have been arrested.
