MEAT SHIPMENTS
CONCESSION TO AUSTRALIA CHILLED BEEF QUOTA INCREASED (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, April 10. The Dominions Office announced that it had been agreed by the Governments of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth that shipments of chilled beef from Australia be increased to 56,000 cwt for arrival in the United Kingdom in April and June, provided the totai shipments of frozen and chilled arriving in theft quarter does not exceed 331,000 cwt.
The Australian Press Association says that the agreement gratifies the Australian Ministers, who have thus achieved the first definite result. The British concession means that Australia is entitled to ship only lOOOcwt of chilled beef less than the 60,000 Australia sought. It is understood that the agreement involves a corresponding British concession to other dominions. FURTHER DISCUSSIONS CONFINru - * !. ONG-TFRIVi FO .K'Y CANBERRA, April 11. (Received April 11, at 10.15 p.m.) Following the meat agreement the Acting Prime Minister (Dr Page) announced to-day that permits will be issued immediately for the shipment of an additional 26,000 cwt of chilled beef to England. Dr Page said that the agreement reached in London meant that the meat export position with Australia had been settled for the second quarter, and the discussions between the Australian and British Ministers would now be confined to a long-term policy to operate from July 1.
