SPECTACULAR EVENT
GENERAL GOERING’S WEDDING HUGE CROWDS ASSEMBLE BERLIN, April 10. General Goering’s wedding was the most spectacular post-war social function. v Vast crowds blocking the traffic witnessed General Goering drive in a flower-decked car to the bride’s home, and then the procession with a bodyguard to the Town Hall for the civil ceremony, in which Herr Hitler was the beat man. Two hundred war planes swooped over the procession to the cathedral, where Bishop Mueller officiated. General Goering’s “ja” was spoken in military style, and was heard throughout the cathedral. The altar was illuminated with a dozen arc lamps. The blonde bride was clad in white with a train. She carried a red bouquet. General Goering was bemedallod and gold braided, and wore an Air Force uniform. Bishop Mueller in his sermon declared that the nation’s great love for General Goering had increased the glamour of the occasion, thus the marriage was a symbol of the new national unity. One hundred thousand people packed the cathedral square and “ heiled ” the wedding party motoring between the ranks of members of the Air Force and Storm Troopers to the Kaiserhof Hotel, where 300 guests were entertained at a banquet. Herr Hitler sat beside the bride, whose goodwill messages included one from her first husband.
