RIFLE SHOOTING

DUNEDIN DEFENCE CLUB. The Dunedin Defence Rifle Club shot the final competition for prizes presented by Captain G. C. Proudfoot and Mr A. J. Shaw on Saturday afternoon. There were 17 members present, and 10 shots (two optional sighters) each were fired at 500 and 600 yards. Weather conditions were not favourable, as a dull light, rear fish-tail wind, and at times drizzling rain made shooting conditions uncomfortable. The best score at 500 yards was 48 made by Rifleman W. A. Graham. At 600 yards the highest score was 42 made by Riflemen R. G. Graham, Deputy-president J. X. Gillan, Riflemen M. W. Denton, and W. Harty. Rifleman M. W. Denton beaded the day’s aggregate with 88. Riflemen J. L. Benfell and R. G. Graham tied with F. Keane (Kiwi Club) for the range badge with a score of 264, and will shoot off later. Following are the highest scores and aggregates;— 500 600

It’s penny wise and pounds foolish to use inferior coal —insist on Kaitangata.— Advt. A small device which enables a physician to magnify the sound of the human heart 100 times and to tune in on the particular heart sounds he wishes to hear, has been developed, making use of two new type vacuum tubes each the size of a peanut. The device was first produced to aid a medical student whose poor hearing prevented him from using a stethoscope.
