OBITUARY
MR W. H. CHERRY The death occurred at his residence in Cargill street yesterday of Mr William Henry Cherry, who was well known to the commercial community as travelling representative of Messrs Thomsons, Ltd. Mr Cherry was born in London 64 years ago and came to New Zealand in 1914, leaving Home 10 days before the outbreak of the Great War. He settled in Dunedin, where he had resided up till the time of his death. He was an enthusiastic sportsman, and was" always a keen follower of the game of cricket. Mr Cherry wag also a prominent figure in the Masonic fraternity, being a member of Lodge St. Patrick. He is survived by his widow and, a family of two daughters—Mesdames Dee, of Wellington, and Watson M'Ghie, of Dunedin —and two sons—Messrs Reginald and Norman Cherry, both of Dunedin. It is worthy of note that Mr Cherry and his sons all followed the same occupation, Mr R. Cherry being a traveller for Messrs Sargood, Son and Ewen, Ltd., and Mr N. Cherry for Messrs Cadbury Fry Hudson, Ltd. JUDGE J. BARTON PAYNE (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 12. News of the death of Judge John Barton Payne, chairman of the American Red Cross and of the Board of Governors of the League of Red Cross Societies, has been received at the New Zealand headquarters, Wellington. He was aged 80 years.
