SILVER RING AND NIGHTLY

(Special to Daily Times) CHRISTCHURCH, March 12. Provided everything goes right during the next 10 days it is probable that Silver Ring and Nightly, two of the best horses in training at Riccarton, will be in Sydney early next month with the object of racing at the Easter meeting of the Australian Jockey Club. R. W. King left for Trentham with Silver Ring to-night He made an early start in order to give the horse some work on the grass before the races on Saturday. His six-furlong gallop this morning in lmin 14 l-ssec was a smart effort, and he should be capable of a good performance in the Railway Handicap, though lie may be even better in the Challenge Stakes on Monday. Next week he will contest the AAvapuni Cup at the Manawatu meeting, after which he will return home a couple of days prior to leaving for Sydney for the Easter racing. F. D. Jones will go north on Thursday with Nightly, who pleased greatly in a seven-furlong gallop this morning, when he went from a slow start in lmin 27 3-ssec, the last six taking lmin 14sec. Tt is hoped that the Night Raid horse will run well in the Thompson Handicap and the Awapuni Cup next week. If he carries out this part of the programme to the satisfaction of his trainer he will be taken to Sydney. P. V. Mason will leave for Trentham to-morrow with two horses. Variant has

done well lately, and, having shown that she can stay, she will have solid support in the St. Leger. Her mate, Hostis, is a much improved hack who should get some more money on the trip: L. J. Ellis will ride both. S. Barr will take Silver Sight and Colossian to Trenthara to-morrow. They are at the top of their form and likely to race well. A. Messervy will ride Silver Sight, whose real chance may come on the second day. . Most of the Riccatton horses who are to race at Trentham will go north on Thursday night. They include Fracas, Knock Out, Hororata, Owkgleam, Greek Shepherd, Knowledge, Emissary, Moonbeam, Fair Weather, Haere Tonu, Wino, and Imperial Spear.
