FREIGHTERS ASHORE

ON, JAPANESE COAST ONE A BRITISH VESSEL * TOKIO, February 23. (Received Feb. 24, at 9 p.m.) , The British freighter Catherine Radcliffe, of 5590 tons, was driven ashore at Cape Daito, southward of the mouth of the Tone River, before dawn by a storm. She was, carrying lumber from Port Landore to Osaka. A navy plane reports that fishing boats rescued all the crew. The radio man remained at his post to the last, sending out S.O.S, messages until the arrival of two salvage boats, which are standing by, but apparently it is impossible to save the vessel. She is listing at an angle of 30 degrees. The high waves, are covered with lumber in every direction. The American freighter Elizabeth Kellogg is also ashore in the Yokosuka naval zone. •
