BACK FROM THE SAAR

THE ESSEX REGIMENT GREETED BY BIG CROWD (British ■ Official Wireless.) RUGBY, February 22. (Received Feb. 23, at 5.5 p.m.) The first contingent of British troops who formed part of the international force in the Saar, consisting of the First Essex Regiment, marched across London this morning to entrain for their camp in Yorkshire. A great crowd greeted them on arrival at Victoria Station. The men looked fit and cheerful. They were headed by their own band and by that of the Irish Guards. The Times describes them as " peacetime victors," and pays a tribute to the manner in which they performed an international task. It recalls the German press tribute to their "unimpeachable, attitude," and says: "They have shown that good march discipline and keen enjoyment of life can go very well together."
