GRAVESTONE DESIGN PRIZE
A five-guinea prize offered by a London solicitor for the best design of a gravestone for his wife has been jointly shared by a boy and girl student at the Carlisle School of Art. The solicitor stipulated that the design should be a suitable one for building in Cumberland sandstone, and sent a cardboard model of his idea for students' guidance together with full instructions as to the lay-out. "It is the queerest request we have had," Mr R. Pickles, the headmaster said. "Several designs were considered before the prize in cash was shared between the two students."
