TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel,

Nominations Nominations for the New Zealand Sapling Stakes of 1936 close to-day. At Wyndham . Nominations for the Wyndham Trotting Club's annual meeting close to-day. Trotting at Timaru Nominations for the Timaru Trotting Club's meeting to be held on March 9 are due to-morrow (Tuesday) at 9 p.m. A " Handicap " The Gore Racing Club's recent programme included four events for lightHarness horses. The committee evidently recognises that the word " handicap " does not apply to such races under the present system of handicapping, and the word did not appear on the race cards in connection with them. A Likely Trio Durbar Lodge, Ltd., has three very promising two-year-olds in regular work. One is a brother to Indianapolis. He is not as tall as his illustrious relative, but is a well-niade colt and is a perfect pacer. Though it is early to forecast his future lie has already shown sufficient ability to encourage his owners to regard him as having the makings of an outstanding horse. Another colt is by Wrack from PearJchild, and is a replica of his sire. Good judges who have seen him are favourably impressed with his appearance and action. He certainly has everything about him that goes to make Derby winners. The third is a filly by Wrack from Trix Pointer. She is a sister to Wrackler, Arethusa, s and Raclaim, and is/ not the least considered of the trio. She is a prospect for juvenile honours. Retiring with Honour By securing £25 for third in the Otahuhu Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting last Saturday, Jewel Pointer brought his total winnings close to the £IO,OOO mark, but it is very doubtful whether the great performer will add much more to his earnings, as Mr D Brideson stated that this would be the last meeting at which the horse "would compete. Jewel Pointer has proved himself to be a courageous racehorse, and since he commenced racing in 1924 he has won for each of the various owners who have raced him. He has been a most consistent performer, and has taken grasstrack records of 2min 7 4-ssec and 2min 40sec for a mile and a mile arid a-quarter respectively at Epsom, and on the dirt track at Addington several years ago he recorded 4min 22 l-ssec for two miles. During the last three seasons he has been doing stud duty as well as racing, and has some attractive young stock coming on. Match Race Likely

The committee of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club is desirous of .arranging a match among the four best pacers in commission and may decide to include Roi l'Or and Auburn Lad in the proposed match between Indianapolis and Harold Logan. The matches arranged in connection with the visit of Walla Walla were so. popular that the premier club is of the opinion that it would be a big attraction if a.match race at Easter comprised one of.the eight events on the day's programme. . This would mean that, the totalisator would be opened on the race. The distance suggested is one mile, and it is more than likely that the field will be despatched to a'flying start. No doubt the owners of Roi l'Or and Auburn Lad will be glad of an opportunity to measure strides with Indianapolis and .Harold Logan. Such a contest will be welcomed by all followers of light harness racing. Successful Sires .

lij is reported by the Referee that from January 9 to February 9 inclusive, the most successful sire was Wrack, whose 10 winners and 12 place-fillers in that period earned £1435. Rey de Oro's total was £1313, made up by nine winners and 13 place-fillers. Progeny of Guy Parrish won three faces and were placed Beven times for £703 in stakes, which advances him to third on the list, with Man o-' War, whose progeny had two wins and three places worth £247 in the same period, now fourth.
