OBITUARY
MRS MARGARET CULLING The death occurred at Timaru on February 14 of Mrs Margaret Culling at the age of 89 years. Born at Caithness, Scotland, in 1846, Mrs Culling came to New Zealand with her parents, Mr and Mrs N. J. B. M‘Gregor, by the ship Berkshire, which was stranded at Nelson'in 1849. The following year the family arrived at Dunedin and went to live at the “ Grange ” at West Taie#i. They later made their home at Silverstream, North Taieri. In 1864 shei wa* married to Mr Joseph Culling, of North Taieri, and after a few years they went to Hillgrove, where Mrs Culling lived until about 13 years ago, her husband having died in 1891 after a long illness. In spite of the hardships which had to be endured, Mrs Culling’s life was one of service to others, and by her kindness and loving nature she endeared herself to all who knew her. Mrs Culling spent the last 13 years of her life in Timaru with her daughter, whose death occurred two months ago. She is survived by two daughters (Mrs H. Cantwell, of Dunedin, and Mrs Larnach, of Rotorua) and by four sons (Messrs J. Culling, of Hillgrove, Frank Culling, of Sydney, F. Culling, of Belleknqwes, and A. Culling, of Upper Hutt). MRS S. GORMAN (Per United Press Association) NELSON, February 22. The death has occurred of Mrs Samuel Gorman, a resident of Nelson since 1859, when she arrived with her parents, the late Mr and M~s Robert Lucas, in the ship Queen of Avon. Just over 50 years ago she married Mr Samuel Gorman, who had come to New Zealand to represent the Nobel Explosives Company. In the earlier days she travelled much with her husband and was well known in many parts of New Zealand.
