SUCCESS OF ST. KILDA WINNER OF A GRADE TEST FIRST HOLDERS OF MEW CUP (Per United Press Association) TIMARU, February 22. The A Grade final test was held at the Theatre Royal to-night, steady rain during the day making an outdoor contest impossible. The theatre was crowded when the aggregate points were announced. The St. Kilda Municipal Band was declared the winner of the 100-guinea gold cup, which was competed for for the first time. Timaru won the First Test and St. Kilda the Second Test. The judge, announcing the results, said he liked the performance of the St. Kilda Band \ -ry much purely on account of the excellent' reading which it had given of the test piece. The Timaru Band had produced some fine dynamic effects, and its reading had been very satisfying. The band bad a fine tone. Excellent performances had also been given by the Port Nicholson Silver Band and the Queen Alexandra’s Own Band. MEETINp OF ASSOCIATION IMPROVED FINANCIAL POSITION, (Per United Press Association) TIMARU, February 22. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Brass Bands’ Association was held to-day. Mr E. Palliser, Wellington, presided. The annual report said that members had every reason to feel gratified with the record of achievement in the face of the disturbed conditions. The financial position had improved and the total number of bands now affiliated was 85,■ divided into three grades and representing 2550 bandsmen. District contests had been held and had proved very successful. The following remits were combined for the purposes of discussion:—Master ton Municipal—“ That it be a recommendation to the Contest Committees of future contests that the prize-money be increased ”; Invercargill Civic—" That the old system of increased prize-money be reverted to and the distribution of profits to the bands be discontinued.” The following officers were elected: — Patron, held over; vice-patrons, Dr H. T. J. Thacker (Christchurch 1 and H. D. Bennett (Wellington); president, E. Palliser , (Wellington); vice-presidents— Messrs R. B. Mean (Christchurch), T. Lindsay Buick, H. B. Burdekin (Wellington), F. W. G. M’Leod (New Plymouth); secretary and treasurer,. Mr J. Gi Osborne; trustees, the president and secretary; auditors, Messrs H. F. Allen and Son (Wellington); Management' Com; mittee—Messrs P. M’Lachlan (Wellington), C. Patchett (Wellington), T. Goodall (Wellington), C. G. Baker (Timaru), A. G. Hower. (Dunedin), E. Bilcliff (Christchurch), The president announced that applications for the control of the 1936 contest had been received from Wanganui, New Plymouth, and Palmerston North. The matter was left in the hands of the Management Committee to determine.
