More than 24,690 debtors were sent to prison in Great Britain in 1932, 11,244 of them being defaulting ratepayers. Faster aircraft, particularly for military purposes, are in the offing, according to a report made to the United States Aviation Commission by Dr 0. W. Lewis, director of aeronautical research for the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics. Dr Lewis forecast a military aeroplane fast enough to fly from Washington to New York (209 miles) in half an hour.
