QUEENSTOWN The Weather Until Tuesday evening, when, following a very close, warm day, a heavy shower fell, the weather had been fine since the tropical downpour. The ' country in general had become very dry, and the rain was most welcome. Pastures should benefit considerably. The readings taken at the local meteorological station for the seven days ended February 17 are:—

Sunshine Club’s Excursion About 200 people availed themselves of the railway and steamer excursion to Queenstown on Sunday. The outing was organised by the Sunshine Club, Dunedin. The party arrived here early in the morning, having travelled through the nigut. The Earnslaw sailed for the Head of the Lake with about 170 passengers. Several motored into the country, and many spent the day quietly in Queenstown. Bowling , The annual handicap singles competition of the Arrow Bowling Club for the cup presented by Messrs Scoullar and Co., Dunedin, has passed through its early stages. The position in the third round is as follows: —J. Anderson beat M'Alister; Hamilton beat Cullimote; Warrington beat Milne; T. Johnston beat J. W. Reed; Hannah beat Robertson; Saunders beat G. Murphy; Goomes beat Dalrymple; Butel beat Summers; Thompson beat M'Bride; Snell beat James; E. P. Johnston beat W. Murphy; W. Anderson beat Wilcox;, Fletcher and Tobin, byes. Milne, Cullimore, and Wilcox were eliminated. Lawn Tennis Teams from the Queenstown and Arrowtown Lawn Tennis Clubs met here during the week. The home players won by a margin of two games after a closely contested match. The scores were: Eight sets all; 94 games to 92. As several Invercargill lawn tennis players werg here during the week, a match against the local club was arranged for last Saturday. The visitors proved too good for the home team, the result being 12 sets to 3 in their favour.

Irrigation League At a recent meeting of the Arrowtown Irrigation League strong complaint was made regarding the amount of foreign matter travelling in the irrigation race as the result of sluicing operations above the intake. It was stated _that the dirty state of the water had a disastrous effect upon stock and pastures, in addition, to silting up the distributing races and boxes. It was resolved that the complaint should be laid before the Public Works Department and Mr W. Bodkin, M.P.

Installation of Officers The installation of Worshipful Masters and investiture of officers of Lake Lodge of Ophir (Queenstown) and Arrow Kilwinning (Arrowtown) took place on Monday and Tuesday nights respectively. The installations were carried out by Rt. Wor. Bro. G. J. Yule, Provincial G.M. of Southland, assisted by past and present G.L. officers. Rt. Wor. Bro. W. A. Stout, Deputy Grand Master of New Zealand, was also present, and took an important part in the ceremonies. The D.C. was Wor. Bro. J. D. Campbell, assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies. Bro. Alexander If. Griffin wan installed a s W.M. of Lake Lodge of Ophir, and Wor. Bjo. Arthur D. P. Pearce was installed for the second term as W.M. of Arrow Lodge Kilwinning,

Murchison left Queenstown on Tuesday morning on a visit to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs F. W. D. AitkeU, of Timaru, are spending a holiday in Queenstown. Mr P. A. M'Namee, a very old and highly respected Garston settler, passed away on Monday.
