BALCLUTHA Personal Nurse J, P. Huggett, the local Pluriket nurse, hag resigned owing to having been appointed to South Dunedin, and will be leaving Balclutha towards the end of March. Her sucfiessor here will be Nurse Janet M'Kay, at present .relieving sister in thq Truby King Hospital, Dunedin. Heavy Sheep A very heavy wether, killed at the Finegand freezer this week, realised 38s on the hooks. Papatowai Fatality BALCLUTHA, February 22. . An inquest was held last night at Owaka, before Mr Thomas Maginness, J.P., acting-coroner, and a jury of four, on the body of William Ha|liday, a married man, aged 59 years, who was found shot at Papatowai on Wednesday. Constable Brownlie conducted the inquiry. It was stated that the deceased, who was employed by the Heathcote (Canterbury) Borough Council, was spending a holiday at Papatowai.. After evidence had been heard, a verdict was returned that the deceased had shot himself while in a depressed state of mind. WAIKOUAITI Early Settlers’ Association A meeting of the Waikouaiti Early Settlers’ Association was held on Wednesday evening, Mr James M'Gill presiding. The meeting Redded to hold a picnic at the Racing Club’s grounds on March 16, and a committee was formed for the purpose of making the necessary arrangements. Bowling Six members of the Seacliff Bowling Club travelled to Waikouaiti on, Thursday evening, two of the party (Williams and Edmensen) being challengers for the Galloway Cup. Griffiths and Carson, the holders of the cup, were successful in this, their ninth challenge. Water Shortage The position in connection with the Alexandra water supply is now very serious. One reservoir (Lane’s dam) is completely empty, and the other one is causing concern.
