A CROSSING SMASH TRAIN COLLIDES WITH LORRY. (Pee United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, February 22. Two men were injured in a crossing smash at Stewart’s Giilly when a truck collided with a passenger train from Rangiora. George Moonlight, married, of Hills road, Mairehau, received head and arm injuries and concussion, Alexander Gibbs, married, of Preston’s road, Mairehau, suffered, head and shoulder injuries. Moonlight was admitted to the hospital. His condition is satisfactory. Gibbs was given attention and sent home. DEATH FROM INJURIES (Pee United Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 22. Ernest Cleave, aged, 47, who was injured in a level crossing smash at Pukekohe last Friday, died in the hospital to-day. For 18 years he had been editor of the Sporting and Dramatic Review. George Barnum Tremaine, aged 17 years, was found dead in. a lonely- gully ii. the Ngatuwera district to-day, the cause of death being a bullet wound in the stomach. The deceased, who was a farm hand employed on Mr S. Brewer’s Waikare property, went pig shooting' with a rifle on Thursday afternoon. He was not missed until early this morning, arid a search resulted in the discovery of the body a mile from the homestead. , . . When the body was found the deceased’s dogs were keeping watch, and there was a Polled Angus bull. in the vicinity. The theory is that Tremaine may have lost his footing, with the result that the rifle was discharged. The deceased’s mother resides at Wanganui. RELIEF WORKER FOUND DROWNED . (Per United Press; Association) CHRISTCHURCH, February 22. The body of Henry Harris, a .relief worker, 60 years of age, who had been missing from the unemployment camp at Okuti Valley since February 9 was found' in a creek .at Little ’River this morning. Harris had no relatives in New Zealand. At the inquest held this afternoon Mr H. P. Lawry, the coroner, brought in a verdict that Harris had been found drowned, there being rio evidence to show how he got into the water. ' ' ■ FATALITY AT ST. LEONARDS WOMAN STRUCK BY LORRY. An accident which resulted in the death of a single woman, Isobel Brown, aged 53 years, occurred at St. Leonards at 1.45 p.m. yesterday. The woman, who was employed as a housekeeper by Mr William Barclay, a retired grocer, of St. Leonards, left home in the rain to walk to the station. As she stepped out on to the Main road, she was struck by a motor lorry, receiving severe head injuries from which she died immediately. A high macrocarpa hedge obscures the view at the corner where the accident took place and makes it difficult for a motorist to see anyone ahead. The deceased had her umbrella up at the time. An inquest will be held at the Morgue at 9.15 this morning. HEAD INJURIES CYCLE AND VAN COLLIDE. A married man named Walter Overton, aged 46 years, was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital at 1.20 p.m. yesterday, suffering from head injuries, received when the bicycle he was riding collided with a delivery van on the Main South’ road. The injured man resides at 9 Sydney street, Caversham.
