So many of the Indian population contrive to .travel on the railways without a ticket that serious losses are occurring on almost every line. The number of fares collected by ticket inspectors is only a fraction of the actual losses, although nearly 3,000,000 passengers were defected last year. There has been much anxiety, in India to reduce the cost ol railway j.ravel. ‘
