SURF ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF DELEGATES. (Per United Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, February 22. Gratification at the progress pf the district associations was expressed by the president, Mr P. Coira, of Wellington, at the annual conference of delegates of the New Zealand Surf Association to-night. Delegates were present representing Auckland, Taranaki, Wellington, Manawatu, and Otago. Mr Coira made particular mention of the number of new clubs formed during the year and expressed satisfaction at the growing interest in surf work throughout the Dominion. The conference considered 18 remits submitted by the New Zealand Council and the Auckland, Otago, and Taranaki Associations. A council remit that a teams’ travelling expenses fund be established was lost on the ground of hardship to the weaker and younger clubs. The conference defeated Auckland remits proposing that there should be no reballot for positions in the Nelson Shield final and a simplified calculation of time points. A suggestion by Auckland to hold the annual conference at Wellington in the recess was held over till funds are in a better condition. Affiliation fees for district associations will in future be fixed amounts according to the number of clubs. The proportional representation of delegates to the conference, as moved by Auckland, was carried. It was decided to offer a national championship meeting to a South Island association at least once in each of three years.
Teams from Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin are already present. A good surf is running for the championships to-morrow and on Sunday at Fitzroy Beach. Although the flooded rivers are casting up much driftwood, conditions are improving.
