NOVEL PREDICAMENT

JUDGE’S CAR STOPS IN CREEK PRISONERS COME TO RESCUE (Special to Daily Times.; AUCKLAND, February 23. An unusual predicament confronted Mr Justice Reed, chairman of the Prisons’ Board, when the engine of his motor car failed while negotiating a flooded section of road on the Taupo side of the Tokaanu bridge this afternoon, and it wag only with the assistance of a number of prisoners from the Hautu prison camp who pushed the car a considerable distance that it wag possible to continue the journey.

After inspecting the Hautu prison camp the members of the Prisons’ Board were unable to get through to Taupo this evening. Mr Justice Reed, who was accompanied by Mrs Reed, attempted to traverse the flooded road on the Taupo side of the Tokaanu bridge, however, but the engine of his car stopped. A number of prisoners from the Hautu camp came to the rescue and pushed the car a considerable distance. After traversing the worst area Mr Justice Reed and Mrs Reed transferred to anothr car and ar-, rived at Wairakei this evening without their luggage. It is doubtful whether the remaining members of the board will be able to get through to-morrow in time to leave lor Napier according to schedule.
