FIRE ON A STEAMER PROMPT ACTION BY OFFICERS COLOMBO, November 10. (Received Nov. 17, at 0.45 a.m.) A shipping disaster was averted by the prompt action of the officers of the Dutch steamer Baloeran, bound for Java. Two nights before her arrival at Colombo a short circuit caused a fire in the first saloon lounge at 11.30 p.m. Passengers who were awake were alarmed, but there was no panic, and the officers succeeded quickly in getting the outbreak under control.
