DECISIONS OF No. 9 AUTHORITY The decisions of the No. 9 Transport Licensing Authority (Messrs A. I. W. Wood, chairman, J. Preston, and W. Blackie) in eases heard during its Dunedin sittings were announced yesterday. AN IMPORTANT PRINCIPLE. In the case in which J. Butler applied for a license to carry pipes from Outran! to the Deep Creek works under contract from the City Council, the board’s decision was as follows:—“ It has been the practice of this authority to issue licenses for the purpose of carrying out local body and public works contracts. The authority has carefully considered the representations made by Mr P. S. Anderson on behalf of the objectors. While appreciating the points raised, the authority is still of opinion that it is desirable in the public interest to grant such licenses.’ Local body and public works'contracts are special works, and public funds are paying for (hem. Such contracts provided for sureties that the contract will be carried out and do not create additional or duplicate running on the roads. In fact, they provide for making good any damage to roads and bridges used. A license is granted for two vehicles and two trailers.” APPLICATIONS DECLINED. In respect of an application by the Matheson Transport Company for a goods service license from Dunedin Ho Invercargill the authority’s decision was that it was not satisfied that the service was necessary or desirable The application for renewal would be declined. In the case in which William Cook applied for a goods and passenger service between Waipiata and Patearoa, via the Sanatorium, for the purpose of carrying out a mail contract, the authority decided that the needs of the district were sufficiently catered for and that a license was not. necessaiy or desirable for either passengers or goods.—The application was declined. The application of R. Adamson, of Oamaru, for a goods service license was declined. The authority considered the service unnecessary, as there were ample services in the district. , LICENSES RENEWED. An application by Hunter’s D.O.T. Motors for the renewal of a passenger service license between Oamaru and Waitaki Hydro was granted on the terms of the existing license with amendments with respect to-race days and reductions of fares. A. Earl’s license for a service between Roxburgh and Dunedin was renewed with provision for additional seating capacity. 1 ' E. G. V. Hart was granted renewals of licenses for the Dunedin-Lawrence and Dunedin-Milton routes, the conditions to remain unaltered. Mrs J. W. Hope was granted a renewal of a license to run between Dunedin and Palmerston, via Seacliff, with alterations in fares and provision for an increase in carrying capacity. ROADING CONTRACTS. E. Gallagher, of Ranfurly, J, J. Brogan, of Dunedin, and the New Zealand Express Company, Ltd., were granted licenses for carrying road construction materials. GENERAL. In respect of an application by D. S. Cameron, of Hawea Flat, a continuous license was granted in lieu of a seasonal license. R. C. Craig, of Omakau, was granted an extra vehicle authority in the area covered by his existing license and was refused an extra vehicle authority and license for a new route to Becks for the purpose of carrying mails.
