A STORY EOR LITTLE PEOPLE. Once there was a fairy queen, who lived in a beautiful place not far from where the mortals live. And as her little people had been working very hard fixing on all the little new leaves and washing the sun’s face , she thought that she would have something" to amuse them one day. She was puzzled at first who she would have, but then she remembered the Brownies. So the Fairy Queen told the wise Brown Owls, and they flew away and told the Brownies. And then the Brownies set to work and practised many things. But, tragedy, the day, they were to go, the sun had the toothache and would not come out. However, the Brownies fixed their smile and did some extra practice, and so a week later in the Queen’s country became Brownieland for a day. Everywhere under the trees were Brownie homes, while on the grass the Brownies ran races. Oh, they did such a 1 lot —obstacle and relay , races, pony show,’ story telling, and lots of other Brownie things. And what about the. Little People? High up in the tiers they sat and chuckled and forgot their tiredness. But Brownies are just like little people, they get tired. And so the Brownieland train shunted into the station and soon they were all back in mortal land. SOUTH AFRICAN RANGER SONG. .‘The following song, translated from the Greek, is sung to the tune of the “ Londonderry Air ” : —■ O Joyful Light, by whose clear shining only In trust we seek, and seeking find a way; Strength of the tempted, brother of the lonely, ' ■ From out our darkness bringest thou the day. In having Thee we lose not one another Sundered, united, dying but to birth; All worlds are one in Thee, O more than brother. And one our family in heaven and earth.' So shine in us, our little love reproving, That souls of men may kindle at the flame;'" " . ■ The whole world’s hatred, .broken by our loving, Shall bow to Thee, Thine everlasting name. Therefore to Thee be praises and thanksgiving To Father, Son and Comforter divine. We lift our voice and sing with all things living. O Light of Life, the.glory that is Thine. . ; ■.?. ! ..
