GOLF IN AUSTRALIA

CENTENARY TOURNAMENT THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) MELBOURNE, November 16. (Received Nov. 16, at 11.55 p.m.) The second day of the Open Golf Championship to-day saw some dramatic changes made among the leaders, Coo-ptr and Thompson ousting Sarazen, who was equalled by Ezar in sensational fashion. Though putting with some luck, Cooper played perfectly for 72. Kirkwood has no chance now. He went out in 40 and home in 38. Rae, of Victoria, gave a brilliant display. He missed a yard putt at the tenth, but regained a stroke by sinking a 20-footer at the eleventh. Kirkwood’s play was scratchy, beginning with three consecutive fives and requiring three putts at the seventh, while he was badly bunkered at the ninth. Shaw's failure was due to poor putting and he struggled home with a score of 40. The scores of the other New Zealanders were as follows:—Watt 78— 77—155, Douglas 83—76—159.
