EGLINTON VALLEY

cITY CORPORATION’S LICENSE ADDITIONAL TRIPS ALLOWED LICENSING AUTHORITY’S DECISION As a result of a decision delivered yesterday by the No, 9 Transport Licensing Authority the City Corporation will have the right to run 19 bus trips to Eglinton Valley this season instead of 10 as previously decided. At the sitting of the authority ou Tuesday last the corporation asked for a license to run tours to Eglinton Valley as required on the ground that there would, during the coming season; be a demand for 30 or 40 trips. The application was opposed by the Railways Department and the Lumsden Tourist Company, Mr J. P. Ward claiming on behalf of the company that the corporation’s action in running the service was in contravention of the powers conferred on it by Statute. Delivering its decision, the authority stated it was satisfied that a number of people who could not make* the trip by any other service would travel by the corporation’s bus. The local service conducted by the Lumsden Tourist service had, however, to be protected as it was carried on during the whole of the year and was essential for local needs. The corporation’s service must, therefore, be restricted within reasonable limits, and a license would be granted to run 18 trips, at the rate of one per week, commencing in December. The corporation would also be granted the right to run- one trip during the Labour Day week-end,- but the right to run any additional trips as required would be declined. The license would be • granted subject to its complying with the provisions of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1933.
