AN INTERESTING FILM
MANUFACTURE OF GIBRALTAR BOARD
. On Thursday evening Dunedin hardware merchants and their staffs and a representative body of local builders assembled in the Tudor Lounge of the fcavoy to witness a kinematograph presentation of an interesting and successful New Zealand industry, “ The Manufacture of Gibraltar Board.” This material was previously imported in huge quantities, but to-day the entire demand is catered for/by the New Zealand product. The film presentation proved of absorbing interest, as the plant employed is the only one of its kind in Australia or New Zealand, and those present were able to appreciate fully the precision of the machine., employed and the care exercised throughout to ensure a wallboard of unvarying high quality and performance. In fact, this “ control ” formed a highlight of the whole process illustrated. Various methods of use were illustrated and were keenly followed by the practical builders present, while all* were visibly impressed by the stringent tests for strength shown, particularly that where a piece of the wallboard ISin by 12in was placed uiinailed upon two pieces of 4in by 2in timber and carried
47 building bricks without fracture and with minor deflection.
Upon the conclusion of the showing, Mr J. A. Gardiner, chairman of the Dunedin Plaster Board Association, expressed appreciation of the opportunity to view the film, which he said depicted an industry of which New Zealand might well be very proud. These remarks were also endorsed by Mr W. Glue, president of the Dunedin Builders’ Association. Those present Were then the guests of the manufacturers, Messrs New Zealand Wall Boards, Ltd., at supper.
