DUNEDIN REPERTORY SOCIETY
Theatre-goers should find no cause to cavil at the choice of the Dunedin Repertory Society for its sixth production, to open at His Majesty’s Theatre on Wednesday, September 26, for a season of four nights. “ Pygmalion,” by George Bernard Slunv. perhaps Britain’s most eminent living dramatist, has qualities that should draw crowded houses, and played by the outstanding cast chosen by the society, it will be a surprising thing if many people are not tempted to see the play more than once. It is some years since “ Pygmalion ” has been played in Dunedin, and tins, together with the dramatist’s recent visit to New Zealand, will stimulate considerable interest in a play that scintillates with sparkling dialogue and truly Shavian wit. “ Pygmalion ” is a play that offers a great deal of scope for good character acting and quick-fire conversaitonal work, of which the players will take fullest advantage. Rehearsals are in full swing, under the direction of Miss Bessie Thomson, whoso successes as a producer are well known. “London Wall” was a great success, but with “Pygmalion” the Repertory Society expects to increase its reputation.
