The Waitati Women’s Institute met at the residence of Mrs Maydon on Saturday. The motto was “A real friend is one who walks in when everyone else walks out.” A demonstration on “ Seagrass Stools ” was given by one of the members. Hostesses were Mesdamcs Stevens, Maydon, and Heather.

Dunback Institute met on Wednesday. Mrs D. Matheson (vice-president) presided. Mrs Pringle demonstrated "hairpin work” and Misses Pringle “How to do long and short stitch. - ’ Competitions were von by Mrs H. Glover and Misses Stone and Deem. Mrs Chasten sang a Maori slumber song. Hostesses were Alcsdames Hewett and Leishman and Misses APAlillan and Deem.

The Broad Bay Women's Institute mot on September 4, Mrs Beyonlde presiding. The motto was “ The only way to have a friend is to be one." The roll call was “ First impression of Board Bay.” The competition, "Best apron made from a Sugar bag," was won by Miss Nyhon, with Mrs C. Lawrence second. Mrs Johnston gave a demonstration on making lamp The hostesses were Mesdames A. M Taggart and C. Lawrence. During the month the members had a surprise party at the home of the vice-president (Airs Jowsey), who is leaving the district, and presented her with a crystal salad bowl.

At the meeting of the Naseby Women’s Institute on Tuesday last, AHsb Bolun demonstrated the making of tinsel pictures. A telegram competition was won by RTra D. Inder. The roll call wag “A washing day dinner.” The hostesses were Mesdamos Brenmer and Cannon.

The Waitepeka Women’s Institute met on Saturday, when Airs G. Grant (Puerua) gave a demonstration on “ Dresmaking.’ The roll call, " Dressmaking Queries,” was answered by Airs Grant. The motto was “ Deeds; not Words.” The hostesses were Airs R. Diekison and Airs W. Somerville.

The Paretai Institute met on Saturday, Mrs Dippie presiding. The motto was “Morning is welcome to the industrious.” and the roll call “A household hint.” The competition, “ Something made from a one-pound cocoa tin,” was won by Mrs A. Alacintosh with a handsome vase. Mrs 0. U. Aitkcnhead second with a workbox, and Airs J. G. Aitkenhead third with a jewel box. Aliss Anderson, of Stirling, gave an account of a trip to Alount Cook. The hostesses were Alesdames Rumney, Thomson, and Alaekintosh. On Saturday evening the sixtli and last of a series of card tournaments was held in the Port Afolynenx Hall. The prize winners were Miss R. Spence and Air F. Cuthbcrtson, The aggregates for the season were won by Airs J. Cnley and Air F. Cuthbertson. A stocking competition was won by Alias Alai Dippie. The hostesses were Alesdames Brown, T- Alarshall, and D. Marshall and Aliss Dorothy Alarshall.
