NOTES FROM PRESS GALLERY (From Oub Pakliamentakv Reporter) -WELLINGTON, September 12. TIMARU MILK BILL. Notice to introduce the Timaru Milk Bill was given in the House of Representatives to-day by Mr Clyde Carr. Mr Carr explained later that his Bill was based on the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Act, and that last years Bill had been followed clause by clause with the object of establishing a system in Timaru practically identical with that now operating in Auckland. The Auckland Act vests complete control of the distribution and sale of milk in the hands of a metropolitan council of nine members, which fixes the levies, grants licenses and has power to fix the prices. There have been many objections to the manner in which the Auckland Act has been administered, and a strong movement lias been set in train to secure its‘repeal. Despite the Auckland dispute, attempts are being made to initiate central milk control at Napier and Hastings, and respective empowering Bills are now before the House. THE DAIRY COMMISSION. Cabinet is concentrating its attention on the nature of the legislation to give effect to the recommendations of the Dairy Commission. These were contained in a private interim report received last week. They were considered at a Cabinet meeting on Monday, and to-morrow members of the commission will confer with Cabinet on the subject. The final report of the commission is expected later in the month, but tomorrows conference indicates that the Government is anxious to expedite as much as possible the task of preparing the legislation. It is also possible that there are aspects of the commission’s roeommenclations which can best be discussed at a round-table meeting.
