STREET MEETINGS
TO THE. EDITOR.
: Sir,—lt was with interest and astonishment I read in your paper that a wellkriown Labour leader had addressed a gathering in Dowling street on Friday evening, .For this meeting no. permit was obtained.from the Dunedin City Corporation as required by the by-laws. {; The Labour Party has for years been impressing .on the people that it is a constitutional body and that:it is.a supporter -of law and order. .Here, however, is a case where, the dictates' of, the people of Dunedin as, expressed through their, lawfully-elected councillors has been flouted. Surely Labour, when it obtains control of the City Council, will expect its decrees- to be respected. Many Labour supporters are 'desirous of knowing if the recent actions of this demagogue have the support and endorsement of the Otago Labour Representation Committee. This body either purposely ■-or unwittingly has Been placed ■under a cloud. A statement as to whether lithe orator, in -..question spoke with the consent of the Labour movement or not would be am, etc.,', ; July 30.,, ; " Sane Labour.
