SLEEPING STRANGER
SURPRISE FOR HOUSEHOLDER
How he discovered a stranger asleep in his house was described to the magistrates at Croydon, London, lately, by Mr George Edwards, of Mitcharo, when Henry Biginton, hawker, of Deptford, was charged with breaking into the residence.
"I found the kitchen window open and glass broken," said Mr Edwards, "and this young man very comfortably asleep on the settee. When I tried to awaken him he opened liis eyes, looked at me, and. went on sleeping. I telephoned for the police." A. constable , stated that when he arrived Biginton was, still asleep, and when roused he remarked, "I am having a sleep." Later he explained that he had been to (see friends, at Mitcham, went ; out late the :.night before to :.get cigarettes,. and thought he had returned to the. right house.' ; : Biginton repeated this explanation: in court, adding that "he had had a tidy drop of drink." The charge was deduced to wilful damage, and he was fined 40s. t ■ ■ >, •
