OBITUARY

MRS ELIZABETH BARDSLEY The death occurred on Tuesday last at her residence, Maitland street,-of Mrs Elizabeth Bardsley, (the widow of Mr Samuel Bardsley,' formerly of Heriot Row, Dunedin. Mrs Bardsley was born in Burnley, Lancashire, in 1857,’and was thus 77 years of age. She arrived iu Dunedin with her parents by the Chile in 1858. She was married in 1878 to Mr Samuel Bardsley, the eldest son of Mr M. Bardsley, of the Albion Soap Works, situated in Cumberland street, and now carried on by M f Leod Brothers, Ltd. , She was the only daughter of Mr and Mrs John Longworth, of North-East Valley, and; .had vivid recollections of tlie early history of Diihcdin. She was one of the earliest pupils at the NorthEast Valley School, and attended the jubilee some two years ago. Although of iate j'ea re Mrs Bardsley took no active part in civic and church : life, because of failing health, she was in earlier years actively , connected with the Hanover street Baptist Church and was engaged for many years in Sunday school teaching. . Her husband died in 1894. She is survived by three sons and five daughters, while one brother of hers is • living—Mr James Longworth, of North - East Valley. ; •, •-a •.
