YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION

BOARD OF DIRECTORS. A fully attended meeting of the board of directors of the Y.W.CA. met under the presidency of Mrs C M. Begg. Mrs C. E. Fowler consented to act as minute eecretary, and Mrs F. B. Adams as treasurer during the absence of two officers of the board. Proposed amendments to the constitution were placed before the board by the sub-committee set up to deal with the matter and accepted for presentation to the annual meeting. The general secretary reported that the work being done has increased in volume with an addition of a lunch hour club for school girls in the Girls' Department, a new circle to the Hibbert Club, and the establishment of three circles of the Business Girls' Lyceum. The work of the Health and Recreation Department was more consollidated, and thorough work was being done with captains and committees. The hostel residents were afforded a very interesting evening by the visit of Mrs Alan Richards, who gave the girls a glimpse of her adventures abroad. A corner for rest had been supplied for the public visiting the Winter Show, and a good deal of publicity matter was distributed at that time. The formation of a Christian social council was reported, and the scope of what it hoped to achieve outlined, the general secretary undertaking to keep in touch with its activities. It was reported lhat studies suitable for committees had been listed, and also a study period for all interested members to be held by Miss M. Black on '.'yon*' tian principles us a basi fi of social justice" had been arranged. Mies Helen Caskey was appointed as a second representative of the association on the Christian Youth Council. Members of the board were reminded of Mrs Sutherland Ross's invitation to meet Miss Jean Stevenson in order to wish her bon voyage on her departure for the World's Council meeting to be held in Geneva in September, when New Zealand will also be represented by Mmns. Bradstreet and Corner (Auckland). Mr? Ivernch (Dunedin). Misses J. Stevenson and N. Hardie. It was reported that Miss Nessie Moncrief, World Fellowship secretary in Peiping, was to arrive in Wellington early in August, when plans for her visits to local associations would be made.
