ST. KILDA QUEEN CARNIVAL
The Carnival Committee of _ the St. Kilda Beach Improvement Society met last night, Mr R. Thompson presiding over a good attendance of members. The acting-secretary (Hr C. Cull) reported that the receipts to date in connection with the carnival amounted to £687 13s sd. From this had yet to be deducted most of the expenses incurred. — The meeting expressed satisfaction at the The organiser (Mr G. A. Wycherley) outlined the arrangements made for the coronation ceremony in His Majesty’s Theatre on Tuesday next, and stated that, in addition to the spectacular crowning ceremony, there would be a highlyattractive concert programme. The draw for the art union would also take_ place on that evening under police supervision. It was resolved to invite the Mayor of St. Kilda (Mr J. Beattie) and the Mayor of Dunedin (the Rev. E. T. Cox) to open the proceedings officially. It was resolved further that “knighthoods” be conferred upon selected representatives of each queen of the Executive Committee. It was decided to notify the winners of the various competitions carried out in connection with the carnival that prizes might be obtained from _Mr D. M. Lister, a member of the committee. Complimentary reference was made to the good work of Mr C. Cull, who had carried on the bulk of the secretarial duties during the absence of Mr J. TreThe meeting passed a resolution express sympathy with Mr E. H. Ombler (assistant secretary) in his recent bereavement.
